About Me
Hi. I'm Haesoo Kim 😎
My friends like to describe me as a serial enthusiast - my most defining characteristic is the enthusiasm I show to most of the things I love. Be it research, friends, music, games; I don't do things halfway. That's probably why I enjoy being in research so much, since in its essence it's an endeavor in going to extra lengths to get answers to the things you're curious about.
Why study HCI? I've always been interested in viewing the world through the diverse lenses of various disciplines. I've also been perpetually interested in 'people', and how each individual has their own perspective and story to share. This led me to activities that allowed me to dive into the stories of the people around us, such as Humans of SNU, LAS and others.
Why social media? One could call me a perpetually online person - much of my interests and values, as well as awareness on social issues have been facilitated through my experiences and interactions with people online. Online communities have allowed me to learn, discover aspects of myself that I never knew, meet new people, and so much more. Novel behaviors and values are often developed through human interactions in these online spaces, and I would like to explore how these communities influence or mediate this process.
I'm also a firm believer in helping people, as well as making the world a better place. As researchers, we have access to a unique lens into the world that allows us to observe and attempt to change the world around us. My research introduces me to a lot of malice and bad experiences -- but at the same time, it allows me to see how people perservere through the strength of human connections and community. I would like to be able to contribute to this cycle of support, through my work and personal life as well.
